Louis Leclerc is behind Pixel Animation and Cartoon Connection Canada, two events that will bring over 400 multiscreen animation content professionals from 20 countries to the Québec City Convention Centre October 26 to 30. By combining the two events, he is creating the biggest animation event in Canada for cinema, television, and video game creators, distributors, and producers.
When Québec City one day becomes a major animation player, it will be in part thanks to Louis Leclerc, executive director of Pixel Québec, and proud meeting ambassador. He has some lofty goals for Québec City and fully intends to promote it around the world. His dream: to attract some of the biggest animated production premieres to Québec City.
Pixel Animation, now in its 5th edition, is gaining in popularity and reputation. Creators involved in major productions ranging from Game of Thrones to Star Trek have been sent by Disney Studios, Sony Pictures, and ILM – LucasFilm to lead master classes. Plus there will be the Pixel Animation Challenge, an international short animated film competition where participants will produce a short film in 48 hours.
Cartoon Connection Canada, organized jointly with Belgium’s Cartoon Media, is a veritable accelerator for Québec City businesses. It’s an outstanding discussion and networking forum where attendees can capitalize on creative opportunities, forge partnerships, and develop international coproductions. In fact, at a previous edition, Squeeze Studio Animation formed a partnership with Corus Entertainment that led to the distribution of a brand new original creation this year on Teletoon all across Canada. A first in Canada: two all-Canadian projects will be selected and then presented at the prestigious Cartoon Forum in Europe.
Pixel Québec is a Québec City–based nonprofit organization that provides a discussion and networking platform enabling industry professionals and institution representatives to capitalize on creative and business development opportunities.
