A major international conference on the global problem of overdiagnosis will take place at  the Québec City Convention Centre from August 17 to 19, 2017, with more than 500 doctors and researchers from 20 countries in attendance.

Previous conferences were held in Hanover, Oxford, Bethesda, and Barcelona. Québec City will be the event’s first Canadian host, welcoming Preventing Overdiagnosis 2017.

International organization and collaboration

The international conference is organized by the prestigious University of Oxford in the United Kingdom with the Québec Medical Association (AMQ) as host organization in collaboration with its local partners, the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), Choosing Wisely Canada, and the Université Laval Faculty of Medicine, Canada’s oldest French-language medical school. The conference coincides with the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Medical Association’s founding in 1867, just months after the Confederation of Canada.

The Québec Medical Association enjoys a sterling reputation worldwide, particularly since the implementation of its action plan for preventing and reducing overdiagnosis, the conclusions of which have drawn widespread interest. It has been invited to present its findings at a number of international forums, where it has showcased Québec and Canadian expertise on the world stage. The selection of Québec City as conference host will undoubtedly raise the profile of the city’s actors and organizations even further.

Advance promotion in Barcelona

A Québec delegation will be in attendance in Barcelona to promote Preventing Overdiagnosis 2017 at the 4th annual conference from September 20 to 22, 2016. Nathalie Nault of Québec City Business Destination will be there, together with representatives of the AMQ and Université Laval’s Faculty of Medicine.
