The Québec City Convention Centre is pleased to confirm that the INALCO International Conference will be held in October 2023. This 15th edition will be held in Québec City for the first time; the most recent editions were held in Tokyo (2019), Naples (2016), and Montréal (2013).
For the occasion, a network of more than 300 experts, researchers and aluminum industry professionals will be on hand to discuss recent research findings from around the world in the fields of construction, transportation and sustainability.
Two members of the Québec City Ambassadors’ Club are behind this international event in the National Capital. They are Mr. Houshang Alamdari, director of REGAL, the strategic group and research centre on aluminum at Université Laval, and Mr. Nicolas Boissonnade, full professor at Université Laval (Department of Civil and Water Engineering).

On several occasions, AluQuébec and REGAL have collaborated to attract major conferences to Québec, such as the 16th International Conference on Aluminum Alloys in Montréal and the 12th International Symposium on Friction Stir Welding in Chicoutimi. Also, Université Laval has been REGAL’s home institution since its foundation. It was, therefore, natural to welcome INALCO to Québec City.
“Québec produces 90% of Canada’s aluminum, which is considered the greenest in the world because of the hydroelectric energy used to manufacture it. Green aluminum in the field of infrastructure and transportation, whether land, sea or air, is a niche of the future for the province and offers a strong potential for economic and social benefits,” explained Mr. Boissonnade.
Indeed, the aluminum sector, made up of world-class companies, is one of the main economic pillars of Québec. The province’s specialized OEMs and suppliers make it a reference for the rest of the world, ensuring a presence and customized solutions for aluminum smelters and casting centres.
“One example is the Arvida Bridge in Jonquière, the first aluminum road bridge in the world. Built in 1950, it was classified as an outstanding civil engineering structure by the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and is known worldwide by professionals in our industry,” Mr. Boissonnade pointed out.
Certainly, INALCO 2023 promises to be rich in discoveries and learning for the participants gathered in Québec City!
