The Québec City Convention Centre and its exclusive food and beverage partner, Capital HRS, have developed a flavorful dish to meet Health Canada food allergy guidelines.

Health Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), allergy associations and the medical community have identified ten substances most frequently associated with food allergies and allergic-type reactions.

In partnership with Videotron Business Solutions, the Québec City Convention Centre is sharpening its competitive edge by launching a compelling technological service for convention clients: free high-speed wireless Internet access in all the Centre’s meeting rooms, exhibit halls, and public areas. The Québec City Convention Centre, which has always been on the cutting edge, is stepping into the lead as it becomes the first convention centre in Canada—and one of the only in North America—to provide free, high-quality WiFi access to its clients.

Five international conventions have been added to the Québec City Convention Centre’s schedule in recent weeks. These agreements will translate into reservations for over 11,000 nights at Québec City hotels, and regional economic spinoffs estimated at more than $5 million.

SportAccord Convention announced the release of a comprehensive report on the sustainability of the 2012 event in Québec City. The report examines both environmental and social indicators and describes the 10th Annual SportAccord Convention at the Québec City Convention Centre in May 2012 as a “first-in-its-class sustainable event.”

Québec City, November 23, 2012 – Québec City’s two biggest meeting venues—the Québec City Convention Centre and ExpoCité’s Centre de foires—are combining their spaces, facilities, and resources to attract leading international conventions with major exhibitions to Québec’s capital. The partnership agreement between the two organizations has been approved by the City of Québec executive committee.

Québec City and the Québec City Convention Centre will host the 14th Annual Conference of the International Society of Travel Medicine May 24–28, 2015. Numerous Canadian cities were initially approached to host this event. However, a visit to Québec City and its facilities by ISTM decision-makers was enough to tip the scale in Québec's favor.

Two U.S. associations have chosen Québec City, one of the top seven intelligent cities in the world, for their international conferences in July 2014—bringing to ten, the number of international conferences and conventions confirmed for the summer of 2014. The Cognitive Science Society and the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence will bring together over 2,000 cognitive science and artificial intelligence specialists at the Québec City Convention Centre for nine days. These two conferences will be held at the same time as the Organization for Computational Neuroscience (OCNS) convention already scheduled to convene its 450 attendees at the Convention Centre from July 19 to 24, 2014.

Québec City Convention Centre CEO P.-Michel Bouchard announced that “The Québec City Convention Centre expansion project construction contributes $22 million directly to the Québec economy. In addition to the 233 jobs created by the project, the work will generate $4.3 million in tax and incidental tax revenue for the federal and provincial governments.” Besides creating tangible benefits, the $36 million investment from the Government of Québec for the expansion project will enable the Convention Centre to increase its economic impact and strengthen its role as a creator of tourist revenue. Once the new sector is up and running in spring of 2014, event activities will generate at least $19 million in additional economic spin-offs in the region.

The Québec City Convention Centre’s culinary brigade, led by executive chef Gérard Michel, has been hard at work for weeks in order to offer the 2,000 people attending the 2012 Fédération Québécoise des Municipalités (FQM) convention an unforgettable gourmet experience. The meals served will showcase the products of Mauricie, the featured region of the 71st annual meeting held September 27 to 29. (...)

It’s heating up in the Convention Centre kitchens
Executive chef Gérard Michel and his team are in high gear preparing dishes created especially for the event by five guest chefs from Mauricie, Fred Chappuis, Patrick Gérôme, Alain Pénot, Justine Prud’homme, and Alain Garceau. Plus, the guest chefs are on site to prepare the 8,000 amuse-bouches that will be served to the 1,000 guests at noon on Thursday, September 27. In all, the kitchen brigade will have cooked 4,215 meals throughout the three days of activities.

 

The Québec City Convention Centre’s three cooling towers have been given a clean bill of health. Following an analysis and inspection by Direction régionale de santé publique de la Capitale-Nationale (DRSP) and city authorities, we have received confirmation that our cooling towers are free of legionella bacteria. Our towers were among the some 100 facilities inspected in the target perimeter following the Legionnaire’s disease outbreak in Québec City.

The Centre’s preventive maintenance program ensures our towers are kept spic-and-span to prevent the growth of legionella bacteria.

The Québec City Convention Centre will be busy come fall, welcoming a total of 25 events in September and October only. More than 17,000 delegates and participants will attend these events, for a total of $22M in regional economic impact and 45,000 room nights for hotels in only two months.

The Québec City Convention Centre’s close to 70,000 sq. ft. expansion will meet requirements for LEED Canada for Commercial Interiors (CI) certification. Being the first Canadian convention centre to receive LEED-EB certification for an Existing Building in 2011, the Convention Centre is proud to offer an eco-conscious building operated with strict environmental principles.

 

Québec City, May 9, 2012 – Attracted by the responsible management of major sporting and business events in Québec, SportAccord International Convention decision makers want the 2012 SportAccord Convention—which will be held May 20–25 at the Québec City Convention Centre—to be a benchmark for the organization’s future conventions.
